The bag below is made of soft, untreated leather, which means the leather easily becomes worn, faded, and stained. We will show you how to easily restore the bag to almost new condition. After a thorough cleaning, we will use Furniture Clinic's pigmented leather balm to restore the handbag to its former glory and luster.
Please note that the leather balm only works on "absorbent" leather. This means that the leather is untreated and has no protective topcoat. If your bag is top-coated, i.e., has color and a protective finish on top of the leather, this method should not be used. Instead, you must dye it with proper leather dye and seal it with a leather finish.

Step 1: The first thing to do is a thorough cleaning. The best product for this type of soft, untreated leather is a foaming leather cleaner. This way, you can clean the leather surface before the cleaning agent penetrates the leather. By using a brush, we also get into the pores, thus opening up the leather for the next step. Let it dry thoroughly at room temperature.

Step 2: Once the handbag's leather is thoroughly cleaned, it's time to polish in the pigmented leather balm, Leather Re-Colouring Balm, with a sponge or cloth. This is a softening leather balm that contains color pigments. The balm enhances the underlying color, restoring its luster without losing the leather's natural color variations. The balm is polished into the leather in the same way you polish shoe cream. The colored balm should penetrate the leather; it should not remain on the surface of the leather, as it can stain clothes and similar items.

Please note that the balm is not a true leather dye, but only enhances the underlying color. This means that color variations and stains will still be visible even after treatment. Dark spots that do not come off during cleaning will be further accentuated; if you avoid applying balm to these, they will be less prominent. Similarly, the color will become a shade darker if you apply another layer of the balm.
Once you are satisfied with the result, let the balm dry thoroughly for 24 hours at room temperature before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: After coloring with the colored leather balm, the leather should be treated with a protective cream. This protects against future staining, wear, and sun fading, and simply keeps your handbag looking great for much longer.
